Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Pays Official Visit to Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, KOMPAS.com – Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for the first time arrived in Jakarta as premier on Tuesday, November 9 for a three-day official visit to Indonesia.

The Prime Minister, who is in the country at the invitation of Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, is accompanied by Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Senior Minister of Defense Hishamuddin Hussein, Finance Minister Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, and other officials.

“The Prime Minister will meet with Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo,” Antara State News Agency quoted a statement by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, November 9.

This official visit will bring the bilateral relations between the two nations to a new height.
“The two leaders will explore opportunities for cooperation, including in recovery efforts from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The two leaders will also discuss important regional developments in the context of ASEAN cooperation, as well as challenges that impact regional security, growth, and prosperity,” it stated.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to witness the signing of several memorandums of understanding between the two countries, to meet Indonesian businessmen, chief editors, and Malaysian citizens.

Prime Minister Ismail will also visit Indonesian defense facilities in Bandung, West Java.
