Lagu ini pertama kali dirilis pada 2006 dalam album studio ketiga John Mayer bertajuk Continuum melalui label rekaman Aware dan Columbia.
Pada 2008, versi akustik dari “Stop This Train” dirilis dalam album live berjudul Where the Light Is, yang mendokumentasikan performa John Mayer saat konser di Los Angeles pada Desember 2007.
