Lagu ini dirilis sebagai singel kedua dari album ketiganya, Awaken, My Love!, pada 2016.
Kemudian pada 2018, "Redbone" berhasil memenangkan piala Grammy Awards untuk kategori Best Traditional R&B Performance.
