Singel tersebut muncul dalam album ketujuh Avril Lavigne yang bertajuk Love Sux (Deluxe Edition).
“I’m a Mess” diproduseri oleh John Feldmann dan Travis Barker, serta dirilis secara resmi pada 3 November 2022.
